The overshirt has long occupied a place between the traditional working shirt and the lightweight jacket. Worn by craftsmen, labourers and tradesmen, garments of this kind offered an additional layer of protection without the weight or construction of a conventional coat.

With the Baroudeur Corduroy Overshirt, Fleurs de Bagne draws on this practical heritage, combining the straightforward lines of traditional French workwear with substantial British cotton corduroy.

The fabric comes from Brisbane Moss, the established British textile manufacturer known for its cotton corduroys and moleskins. Woven from 100% cotton, the navy corduroy has a specified weight of 420 grams per linear metre. Its characteristic raised ribs give the surface depth and texture, while the substantial cloth lends itself to the structured appearance of a traditional workwear overshirt.

The Baroudeur follows a simple, functional construction. Two patch chest pockets with buttoned flaps provide practical storage, while natural Corozo buttons complete the front closure. Made from the hard seed of the tagua palm, Corozo has a long history as a natural alternative to synthetic buttons in traditional clothing.

The long-sleeved silhouette allows the Baroudeur to be worn over a shirt or lightweight knit, serving as an intermediate layer between indoor clothing and outerwear.

Its navy colour and uncomplicated construction reflect the understated character of European workwear, where materials and practical details take precedence over decoration.

Corduroy has been used in European working clothes for generations. Its distinctive raised ribs are formed during the weaving and finishing process, creating a textured surface with a soft handle and substantial character.
