Rooted in Maritime Tradition

The traditional fisherman's sweater was developed for a life spent working at sea, where protection against cold, wind and damp conditions was essential. Knitted from wool, these garments became an indispensable part of maritime workwear, valued for their warmth, practical construction and uncomplicated appearance.

With the Le Pull Mataf, Fleurs de Bagne draws upon this heritage, creating a wool fisherman sweater that retains the straightforward character of traditional seafaring clothing.

Knitted from 100% Schoeller virgin wool, the sweater features a substantial 3-gauge jersey knit. The relatively open, chunky structure gives the fabric its distinctive texture while providing natural insulation without excessive weight.

The natural wool colour emphasises the simplicity of the design, recalling the undyed tones traditionally associated with fishermen's knitwear.

Cut with a slightly relaxed silhouette, the Mataf allows comfortable movement and leaves sufficient room for layering over a shirt or lightweight base layer. Its proportions reflect the functional origins of maritime clothing rather than the close-fitting construction of contemporary fashion knitwear.

Manufactured in Portugal by a family-run workshop, the sweater continues Fleurs de Bagne's interest in traditional European clothing, natural materials and garments inspired by working life.
