Regular price €450,00The 1983 Seiko 7A38-7070 Chronograph, possibly the best quartz chronograph movement ever made, according to those in the know.
Launched in 1983, the Seiko 7A28 was marketed at a relatively modest price while being an extremely reliable and well finished chronograph.
Following the success of the calibre 7A28 as the world's first quartz analogue in 1983, Seiko released the calibre 7A38 that includes the addition of the day/date display.
With a 15-jewel mechanical part and an independent motorization for each sub-register, the Seiko 7A38 was intended to offer the same ergonomics as a traditional chronograph, with the added revolutionary precision of quartz.
Activated by a push button positioned at 10 o'clock, the main chronometer hand stops while the sub-register chronometer at 9 o'clock continues its course, offering a function close to the traditional "split second". This variant of split second allows to measure 2 events that started at the same time but end at different intervals.
The most impressive feature of this watch is the sub-register at 3 o'clock which displays a precision of 1/10th of a second and advances by 20 beats per second.
The reference 7A28 (and 7A38), thanks to its unbeatable value for money, was a very popular watch in its day. Sought-after by connoisseurs, it is a watch that has been declined in several variants and has its own website and discussion forum.
Its colleague, the 7A28-7020, is not to be outdone since it will join in 1985 the very closed circle of watches worn by James Bond (Roger Moore) in 'A view to a kill'.
